JUSTIN PEACHEY:
This weekend at Gridlife Gingerman Raceway was an absolute blast! I had the privilege of running this stunning C8 Corvette, owned by Dallas Reed of VitourP1.com, in the Time Attack sessions all weekend.
It was a bit of a learning curve for me, as it was not only my first time tracking a C8, but also my first time at Gingerman Raceway. Thankfully, the track wasn’t too difficult to learn, and I felt like I had it figured out by the end of the first few sessions.
Vitour P1 vs. Yokohama A052 Benchmark Test
We ran both the Vitour P1 and Yokohama A052 to benchmark them against each other. My fastest lap of the weekend was on the P1, clocking in at 1:38.4 during the first morning session of the second day, which had the best conditions. In the following session, I ran the A052 and posted a 1:39.0, but the conditions had worsened with the temperature rising significantly.
Here’s what I found so far:
Overall Pace: Both tires are very similar in terms of lap time.
Heat Tolerance: The A052 falls off in pace with each lap as it gets hotter. After three back-to-back laps, I was about half a second slower per lap.
Vitour P1 Advantage: The P1 held its pace for at least three straight laps on the C8, showing better consistency during extended runs.
Dallas also mentioned that the P1s last much longer than the A052s on this car. This set of P1s had already been through three full track weekends, including two weekends with two drivers, plus 20 autocross runs, and still has life for more weekends to come.
Final Thoughts
Huge thanks to Dallas for inviting me out and giving me the opportunity to pilot the C8 Corvette around Gingerman Raceway. It was an awesome learning experience, both in getting more familiar with the track and gaining valuable seat time with the Vitour P1 tires.
