Our team had a fantastic weekend at the SCCA Time Trial Nationals held at the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park (NCM). Here’s a rundown of our drivers’ impressive performances on Vitour Tempesta P1 tires.
Dallas's C8 E-Ray
- Fast Lap: 2:11.5
- Finish: 2nd in U1 Class, 11th Overall out of 196 drivers
-
Highlights: Fastest AWD car, fastest stock car on the grid
- Likely the next stock car down the list was Mike.
- Tire Setup: 295/25/19 and 345/25/19 Vitour Tempesta P1 on Apex VS-5RS (19x11, 19x13) wheels
Catch a 2:11.6 lap video here: Watch on YouTube. This video shows a nearly identical lap to Dallas's best. With a cooldown/recharge lap in between, Dallas realized he hadn’t set up the PDR but got it rolling for the third lap—a bit less tidy, but maybe with a slight draft assist on the front straight!
Mike Young’s C8 Z06/Z07
- Overall: 16th
- Class Finish: 4th in U1 Class
- Fast Lap: 2:12.9
- Tire Setup: 295/345-19 Vitour P1
Mike put down some great times in his Z07 running slightly used Vitour P1s, landing him a solid top 20 spot.
Justin Slaughter’s C6Z
- Overall: 32nd
- Class Finish: 5th in U1 Class
- Tire Setup: 315/345-18 Vitour P1
- Rookie Achievement: Won the “Spirit of Time Trials” award for standout performance as a newcomer
Justin, on only his third track event, was fast and consistent, earning him the Spirit of Time Trials award—a major achievement for a rookie!
Tire Performance Comparison
A notable highlight from the event was how our Vitour P1s held up compared to competitors. At the end of the weekend, our tires showed much less wear than Nick Zelisko’s RE71RS tires on his RX-8. Nick, who started with new tires, noticed significant wear and performance drop-off. Meanwhile, the Vitour P1s held strong under much higher power and weight, staying consistent lap after lap.
Event Summary
Dallas's E-Ray had a fresh set of Vitour P1s, while Mike’s Z07 used a set that had seen previous action at Willow Springs. After a warm-up session to scrub in the P1s, Dallas began experimenting with power timing and grip levels. Dallas was consistently hitting low 2:12s and managed a best time of 2:11.5 by taking advantage of better Sunday conditions. Though he missed video on his fastest lap, his third flyer came just a tenth off his best time.
Overall, we had a fantastic event, proving once again the power and durability of the Vitour Tempesta P1. Finishing 2nd in U1 behind the fastest modified production car ever at NCM shows the capabilities of these tires even on a stock setup!
