Tire Performance
Despite being well-used, the Vitour P1s performed impressively throughout the weekend. By the end, they looked almost like slicks, yet still maintained excellent grip. There was minimal fall-off, even toward the end of each session. While traffic may have played a role in this, it was great to push the car hard and run full sessions without the tires going greasy.
Event Highlights
- I shared the C8 Corvette with Dennis Uebersetzig from America’s Vitour Tire, who flew in from California to meet Jeff during his Indianapolis visit and to co-drive the C8.
- We both drove in Group 1, with me starting in the Time Attack RX-8 in Group 1 and then switching to the C8 for Group 2, jumping into the hot pits as Dennis came off track.
- Dennis and I ran full sessions, pushing the car for 30-40 minutes each outing, putting the tires and car through some serious heat.
Day 1 Recap
- The day started with rain, followed by a hot and humid afternoon.
- Best times: Dennis clocked in at 1:16.6, and I scored a 1:16.4.
Day 2 Recap
- Cooler temperatures with a humid morning session.
- Dennis set a Sport 1 track record with a time of 1:15.1, while I followed with a 1:15.3, after jumping in the car in the hot pits right after Dennis' record-setting lap.
- The afternoon saw higher temperatures and less grip, but I managed a 1:15.7, with Dennis at 1:16.2.
- In a separate test, I compared Hoosier A7s and the Vitour P1s on the RX-8, finding that the A7 was about 1.5 seconds faster per 60 seconds.
Results
- I won Sport 1 both days and took home the weekend title, while Dennis set the new Sport 1 track record.
- Michael Young, driving a C8 Z06 on 295/345-19 Vitour P1 tires, consistently hit 1:14.8 laps.
- In the Time Attack RX-8, I posted a 1:11 on the P1s in the late afternoon session of Day 2.
Across every class with a Vitour P1 entrant, the tires performed spectacularly and came out on top!
